Phone X Launcher, OS 12 iLauncher & Control Center is an Android app that lets you make your Android phone look and behave a lot like an iPhone.

The Phone X Launcher, OS 12 iLauncher & Control Center app is quite the mouthful. We’ll call it iLauncher going forward, and this is an app that lets you recreate the OS 12 experience on an Android smartphone or tablet, and the changes are not just superficial.

The iLauncher gives your home screen and other aspects of the UI an iOS makeover, including icons wherever possible. Not only does it change the fundamental aesthetic, but it gives you access to actual free iPhone themes as well as more than 100 free iPhone wallpapers.

As mentioned, the makeover is not just superficial. iLauncher, for instance, changes the lock screen to a version that emulates the iPhone. You still have the option to use a passcode or a gesture, but the behaviors are like the Apple approach rather than the Android style.

Another area where the changes are more than superficial is the added search mechanism. For those not aware, the iOS approach is to present all installed apps as icons on the home screen. Get enough of those icons and finding anything becomes a chore, but the iOS-style search lets you search all apps as well as presents you the last used app and recently used apps.

There is no need to configure iLauncher if you don’t want to, but if you do want, that is what the Control Center iOS 12 is for. This lets you personalized almost every aspect of the changes the app can make, and in most cases, all tasks require just a single touch. In addition to features, you can personalize styles, sizes, colors, positions, vibration and so forth. The app also features what it calls smart toggles. These are available for features like silent mode, airplane mode, Wi-Fi, and they let you switch on the fly.

The developer promotes the iLauncher app as causing your Android smartphone or tablet to use up less memory and consume less battery. This is an assertion that was not readily noticeable under general usage. That said, on none of the Android devices that we tested did we notice an increase in memory used or battery power consumed, which is generally not the case with skin suites this ambitious.

iLauncher is refined and stable and works exceptionally well for the most part. It is probably an impossible undertaking to account for all possible Android environments, and while it works in most cases we tested, we noticed issues in some. In some cases, some aspects of the UI, such as the icons, were blurry or pixelated. In other cases, hidden apps were not actually hidden and still visible. In cases where these issues cropped up, we were generally unable to get the app to work and moved on.
